TechCrunch: get better at taking photos

I may have got a bit overexcited about the delivery I’ve got coming tomorrow, and read just about every single iPhone 6 review on the internet.

TechCrunch has two.

One, is basically the best one out there. Matthew Panzarino’s account of his experience taking the 6 and 6 Plus to Disneyland. It’s excellent as –

  1. It gives you an actual account of using the devices in a demanding real life situation
  2. It’s different to all of the other reviews, so it stands out

The other standard TechCrunch iPhone 6 review, does neither of these things. And it’s one of the only reviews I can’t be bothered to read in full because it just looks so terrible. Continue reading

The best Apple Pay, iPhone 6 and Apple Watch links

I find the best way to get a real idea of how products work is via video. Since the shocking livestream from Apple’s event yesterday (which you can now watch without the hitches), I’ve watched a few bits that have given me a decent sense of how the products work.

These are the bits of video that have really shown me how Apple’s products actually work, better than the keynote did. Continue reading

How Twitter Analytics has changed the way I tweet

Running speed in Runkeeper, Nike+ and MapMyRun

I’ve been running for a few years now, and have been getting progressively faster. As you’d hope I suppose. But I’ve had a few ‘jumps’ in how quick I am, that seem to correlate with my fickle switching around running apps.

On privacy, identity and integrity

I watched Terms and Conditions May Apply at the weekend. It was mostly shockingly awful, utterly incapable of dealing with the online privacy debate with any depth, balance or intelligence.

It suffers from a couple of the problems with the conversation around online privacy I think. The first being that most people don’t actually care that much. So like any relatively marginal issue it only gets discussed by people who really care, leading to the discussion getting dominated by those with extreme views. Which is how we end up with a documentary that appears to be premised on the idea that any sharing of your personal information on the internet is just bad without bothering to consider any of the positives. And regardless of whether you did in fact choose to put it there.

Möngöl Hörde: Möngöl Hörde

I don’t mind Frank Turner. He seems like a nice bloke. Some of his solo stuff is OK. I saw Million Dead live once, supporting Thursday and Jonah Matranga (who was also supporting) got up and they did Smiths cover. That was pretty cool.

But this album. This album. Well.
